Associate awarded NSTF-South32 Award

We warmly congratulate NITheCS Associate Prof Yin-Zhe Ma, Full Professor and Head of the Astrophysics Group, as well as the Stellenbosch–Groningen Joint Research Chair at Stellenbosch University, on receiving the TW Kambule-NSTF Award: Researcher. This award recognises his groundbreaking research into understanding the large-scale structure of the Universe.

Prof Ma’s research has made significant advances in detecting ‘missing baryons’ – the matter that is not directly visible – and in developing innovative detection methods to study how these baryons interact.

The NSTF-South32 Awards honour outstanding contributions to science, engineering, technology (SET), and innovation in South Africa. This year’s ceremony also marked the 30th anniversary of the National Science and Technology Forum (NSTF).

The NSTF theme for 2025 is Quantum Science and Technology, aligning with the United Nations’ declaration of 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology.
